On Being The Kolder Family
So the word is officially out, we are now a family of three (four if you count Fernando, our Betta). Not knowing what to call the baby is a little difficult because we don’t know the sex. Is it a he? A she? An it?
So the future G-mama (my mom) has suggested that we call the baby Little K…which sounded a lot more fun than saying “it” or “he or she” all the time.
Anyways, I was telling my friend Dave about our doctor’s appointment and I called the baby “Little K” in the midst of the conversation. Dave thought that was funny and decided if the baby is going to be called Little K, that I then have to assume the name Big K. I thought that was kinda funny (I used to work at a Big K) but I didn’t want Christy to feel left out. So I asked Dave, “What does that make Christy?” His response?
Wait for it….
Wait for it…
Wait for it…
“Special K”
It’s A Baby!
So we went to our second doctor’s appointment on Monday. Everything checks out and we have a healthy baby. Pray for us and the baby…we’re believing God to raise up a new generation of believers that will usher in His return and we want our baby to be part of that generation.
If you want to hear Little K’s heartbeat, feel free to hear it here.
Lord, thank You for the miracle of life. Thank You, Lord, for our baby. I ask that even in the womb You would fill our son or daughter with the Holy Spirit. I ask even from a young age he or she would know You and even now our baby would sense Your presence. Thank You for the little family You are forming to bring glory to Your name.
50,000 Coaches
I’ve just been thinking about Akeelah and the Bee again lately. There is a powerful part of the movie where Dr. Laraby, Akeelah’s spiritual father of sorts, recognizes his weakness and backs out of her life. Akeelah looses all confidence in herself because her coach has walked away from her. It’s at this point that Akeelah’s mom turns to her and says, “You don’t need him, Akeelah, you have 50,000 coaches.” The next few scenes you begin to see people in Akeelah’s life who have been anything but helpful step up to the plate and help her learn 5,000 new words she will need to know for the National Spelling Bee.
This got me thinking about life. We all need spiritual fathers and mothers giving input into our lives. I think many times we underestimate how important they are in our lives. But I know a lot of young men who have no spiritual mentor and ache over the lack of true men of God who will pour into them. We must have spiritual parents, but we also cannot underestimate the 50,000 coaches we have around us. If you are part of any kind of spiritual community, you have 50,000 coaches that will train you for the days ahead. Don’t forget to be thankful for the 50,000 coaches the Lord has put in your life.
