House of Friends Newsletter (March)
One of the areas of my life I’ve been a little bit silent about is my involvement with House of Friends. House of Friends is a group of people that was brought together by this guy in January of 2008 in an attempt to launch missions movements all over the earth in the context of orphanages, night and day prayer, and church planting.
Since I’m a huge fan of caring for the poor, touching the nations, night and day prayer and church planting, being involved was real no-brainer for me. I’ve been shocked at what Jesus has allowed us to be part of even though we aren’t very large. This summer I’ll be part of a team going to Ethiopia to scout out some possibilities for more involvement there. (You’ll probably here more about this later.)
Anyways, I’m going to make an effort to provide the cause a little more cover here on the blog, starting with publishing the most recent newsletter. There is actually a little more in-depth article about our time with Gizaw and John Gross which I talked about here and a lot of information about how you can get involved helping widows, orphans, and the lost of the nations. If you’re interest is piqued, you can check out our website here or join our cause on Facebook here.
Check out the newsletter here. I will post more as they become available.
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (James 1:27)“
Christmas Greetings, Dr. Seuss Style
I just wanted to take a quick minute and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. For us, this is going to mark the end of a very busy month. We haven’t been super caught up in the holiday parties and stuff, but it will be nice to have all the shopping finished and just reflect on what Christmas is really about. If you’re a friend of mine on Facebook, hop on over and check out the new Christmas pictures of us and the kids. If you’re not a friend of mine on Facebook…well…introduce yourself and maybe you can take a look, too.
Here’s a quick thought I wanted to share. Tomorrow morning when we wake up, there will be a long, eventful day in front of us. That day, however, is not about gifts or about giving, it’s not about saving a troubled economy, or even about spending time with family and friends. Tomorrow will be the day that most of the Christian world commemorates Jesus laying aside His divine status as God and taking on the form of a human being in order to bring us into fellowship with God. Whether we get what we want or get anything at all, we have reason to be thankful. Take some time and express to God your thanks.
Finally, I leave you with a quote from perhaps the most famous Dr. Seuss book of all time, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” This quote comes as the Grinch has stolen all of Whoville’s things and is waiting to hear them weeping and wailing. He believes he has stolen Christmas by stealing their gifts. Instead he hears them joining together, despite losing all their Christmas “stuff,” to sing a song of thanks. And then the narrator says:
“And he puzzled and puzzled, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more.”
May we all come to that conclusion tomorrow. Merry Christmas, everyone!
