Who Should We Support

Neil Cole is blogging about who the Bible says should receive full time support from the church here, here, and here. This is a huge issue that needs to be addressed, especially in light of the current financial crisis which is now hitting churches everywhere. Neil is brilliantly simple and able to cut to the heart of a matter. I highly recommend checking it out!

A Blog Recomendation

If you haven’t heard of ~synthesis~ yet, don’t feel bad.  I came across this blog only earlier this week.  I only found out about it because I was looking through Time.com’s 25 best blogs of 2009 article.  The blog is written by Shafeen Charania, a Tanzanian born Canadian who lives in the NW United States.  This guy is incredibly sharp…some of the blogs are way over my head.  I also should warn you that he does not write quick, pithy blogs but they are definitely worth the time and attention.

Today he just finished writing a blog called “Oversight or Insight” critiquing the United States for trying to control how things are being done instead of creating incentives for smarter, better equipped people to do it for the government.   It’s time we as Americans not just elect someone we agree with but elect someone who can create systems that achieve actual change.  Shafeen’s blog spells out some really simple, direct ways we can bring reform to the government. Check it out, I think you’ll enjoy it!

When an Ethiopian Comes To Your House Church

Quick update:  Today John, Gizaw, and Kenton from Kansas City shared a day with us here in Iowa.  We had been hoping for a few months to draw together some of the main players in our upcoming Ethiopia trip for a time of dialogue, team building, and interaction.

We started out the day with an off the hook word from Gizaw.  I had asked Gizaw to speak to us about “what the church in America can learn from the church of Ethiopia” and the Lord and Gizaw did not dissapoint.  Then it was off to the Starlite Room for some down home eating and Field of Dreams references, as well as a lot of intentional dialogue about what the trip to Ethiopia will look like both in the short and long term.  Then back to our house, where John shared about the vision of  House of Friends. He also shared a dream he had last night that was for our house church.  Then ensued a time of worship, prophecy, pizza, card games and chick flicks. (Note: not everyone participated in every activity.)  Oh, yeah, and Bryan danced a victory dance to Staying Alive by the Bee Gees.

Hopefully I’ll have a chance to give a more detailed report tomorrow.
