Realizing Prophecy

I’ve been a firm believer in the gift of prophecy for nearly as many years as I’ve been saved.  I’ve rejoiced in the operation of the gift, I’ve celebrated flowing in the prophetic myself, and I’ve sought to take that gift to a deeper level.  But at some level seeing prophetic words fulfilled has been a bit of a mystery, especially in my life.  Paul is clear in his letters to Timothy that there is a need to wage war based on the prophecies given over your life (1 Timothy 1:18), and part of that warfare is to believe those things spoken over you that are true and to pray and act on those prophecies in their appropriate time.

What got me thinking about all this was I saw a friend yesterday that I’ve known for several years.  The very first time I met this friend, he took time to prophesy over me about my calling to lead small groups of believers and disciple them.  He knew nothing about my desire to plant house churches at the time but the word was from the Lord and it’s coming true here in recent days.  And it got me thinking about different prophecies that the Lord has been kind to release all about the hour I’m living in now.  The very first prophetic word I’d ever received was about starting churches and many of them since have had similar themes.

Now, I’m in no way considering myself having attained the fullness of these words.  There are more churches to plant.  There are better churches to plant.  I’m still called to bring apostolic christianity to the earth to a greater degree.  But today, I’m sitting, enjoying the fact that the Lord honors and upholds His word.  He does not lie.  If there is a serious prophetic word over your life, war for it.  Do not give up.  He is faithful who called you and He will complete a good work in you.
